Deborah Grose-Checkel was born in Saskatchewan, Canada, and currently resides near the Rocky Mountains in Alberta. Deborah taught music lessons to students of all ages, and previously worked as a fitness instructor, personal trainer, and lifeguard, as well as gained lifelong education and experience in business, corporate, entrepreneurial, and political arenas, including climbing a mountain or two.
Having studied at two bible colleges following high school graduation, in 2000, Deborah attended Ambrose University College, graduating with a Master's in Intercultural Ministries and a Master of Divinity in Pastoral Ministries. This was followed by post-master's classes at Canadian Baptist Theological Seminary (AB), Briercrest Seminary (SK), St. Stephen’s College (AB), University of Toronto School of Theology (ON), and Wilfrid Laurier University (ON), plus 20 years of accumulated Professional Education Credits. Deborah is now a Certified Psychospiritual Therapist, a Certified Psychospiritual Practitioner, and more recently, a Provisional Supervisor-Educator.
Deborah has over 20 years of combined experience in pastoral counselling and psychospiritual therapy, including a Residency at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, a Youth Mental Health Treatment Center, and an Addictions Detox and Treatment Center. During a short break between professional positions, Deborah was able, through her memberships and socio-political education with Provincial political parties, to run as a candidate in the 2015 election for the intent of speaking against what was then Bill 19 regarding property rights, and also hopes of improving the delivery of the social services system. Following this, she began working with a well-known Employee Assistance and Workplace Support Program for over 6 years.
Recently, while on leave during the influenza outbreak, Deborah completed 13 Credentialed Coaching Certifications and currently works with clients through her private practice, True-North Counselling and Therapy. Throughout these professional practice and employment placements, she has continued to gain education and experience, utilizing her specialized education to assess her clients' personal worldviews and form a therapeutic approach that best suits their needs.
Along with spending time with her husband, family, and friends, Deborah plays several instruments, and in her spare time, enjoys aerobic walking with her Biewer Yorkie Terriers.
Deborah felt called in 1998 to prepare to train the next generation of youth, a role she has been involved in since her early years as a Christian, beginning with Children’s Church at the age of 14 and continuing through until the present. Following an intense period of intercession around the 2024 United States Presidential Elections, Deborah was recently reminded of that calling while watching a previous mentor on television. She once again felt compelled to move forward with Vertical Living College of Faith, offering both online and in-person classes, in anticipation of what she sensed as a coming revival and reformation of faith among the world’s Christians, particularly among young generations.
If you, too, are sensing a calling from your Creator, please consider joining Deborah as her companion on this final journey. The adventures have only just begun…
